I have killed a lot of porkies but my biggest was 350lbs, he was a brute. Shot one from a helicopter once that was 500+, he was so big did not run, just looked up at us and was like F*CK ya'll I am trying to eat. He never ran and it took from what I remember 6 or 7 shots to drop that big bastard. Just let him lay, should have grabbed his tusks because they ahd to be 5'+ if not lots bigger. We shoot them here and let them lay, too many of them, tearing up too much stuff.

Biggest a big black one about 300 pounds. Took two shots from the old 7 Mag. Second largest was 175. They just don't live long enough to get big here LOL.

Same here Alan, they just don't live long enough to get much bigger. I shot one that was close to 300 but not quite. That's as big as I have killed. I shot one with bow this summer that was a little over 200 boar and a sow that was about 250 from about 10 yards. I love blackberry season!

Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44mag with handloads. Shot him in the neck at about 7yds. It was the first, best shot opportuninty I had. We bayed him in a corn field with dogs and he had already gutted one dog.

One thing that will make them bigger is if you nuder them. It also makes them not wander to far from home.

See thats the tricky part the guy we know who cuts them catches em in a cage. Then he gets some people to grab it through the fence. He also cuts off their tails so he knows if hes caught them before. The little 100lb boar about tear down the fence. Also when ya let em go you got to get on top of something in case they turn around and charge ya.

I have been chased, they are faster than you think. Good think I can jump, tree bound for me and a buddy. My dad did the same thing, catch them in pens and chops the nuts and he would slit both ears real big. Was interesting at times though, real interesting.....

Its really pretty easy to cut one but I almost got kicked off the place I was hunting several years ago for doing it. The farmer had a fit when he found out I let some go alive. His only rule was "You can even leave them lay as long as you leave them dead."

I still do that sometimes, ear hole 'em and let 'em run off and die somewhere. Sometimes I take them into town to some people who need the meat. My goal is to shoot a pig smaller than holediggers on day, I think it is holedigger, if not somebody bash me for not knowing!! graemlins/hammer3.gif

Nothing wrong with a 50lb boar. I shot somewhere around 15 this summer that weighed between 40 and 75 lbs. I'll post a couple pics tomorrow. Gotta go to bed now. Pt is at 0500.lol

Ive killed several Boar over 300 lbs and every one of them went down with one well placed bullet or arrow.Matter of fact I still contend that shot properly a pig gives up the ghost much easier than your average whitetail.

I think 200-250 is a more common weight for a large boar round here. The biggest pig Ive taken ran a 400 lbs scale to the end , it was a sow and if I had to guess she was right around 450. That year we had a bunch or yorkshire looking ferals running around and we all dropped 400 lb + sows trying to get rid of em.Our property looked as though it had a 4H project gone bad on it that year .LOL

John,
I agree with you, when you shoot a hog they die alot quicker than a deer even though they can run fast as hell. It's like they know, that was Rickey Shannon that just stuck me with that arrow, I might as well lay down. ;) Usually they don't run any farther than 30-40 yards but I have had a lot of pigs shot with bow not make it more than 20. Deer seem to be able to run a decent distance without air but pigs can't, at least that has been my experience.

All the ones Ive shot just fall over and lay there till they die.

worrgames,
You using gun or bow? My gun pigs 9 times out of 10 drop and lay but the bow almost always run. I have only had one drop on the spot and that's because he was quartering away rooting and when I shot behind the shoulder the arrow lodged in the brain and he just dropped and squeeled for a couple of minutes. That was one of the few times I have stuck 2 at once with a bow.

I use a gun but am wanting to stick one with a bow hopefully do it later this year.

After you do then you'll leave that gun alone! ;) It get addicting stalking them to 10 and 20 yards with those little ones sometimes only a few feet away.
