I've never hunted hogs before and have always wanted to. Anyway, I have a question. What type of terrain do you hunt in? Hilly, flat? Swampy, crop areas? Do you use feeders? Ever use dogs? I'd just like some info for my own enlightenment.

This hog stuff is actually newer to me than you think. I just had a good year and had this old guy teach me a few basics. No better way to learn than an ole timer with 50+ years of hunting experience and 20 or so hunting hogs. I will also add that to top that off I bet I hunted a minimum of 60 days from mid May through begining August. I paid my dues this summer. I took a slight break in August. Anyhow, I hunt some flat land but most is hilly. Some ground is very uneven as most is not to bad unless you're draggin. We have 180,000 acres here so you can believe there is alot of different types of hunting styles and terrain. We are not allowed to run dogs on post but they do off post. That is really fun. They catch those hogs live and sell them to hunt clubs. We are not allowed to bait either. I'm not saying noone throws hog wild into any mudholes now and then but you better not get caught. I also no of guys who put corn down during the summer but you are not supposed to be able to hunt those spots until 2 weeks after it is all gone. They'll ticket you for a kernel on the ground. That's a gone gun too. I personally like to hunt pigs after Turkey season until the end of summer. Everyone says its to hot but the pigs get stupid during this time. You can find them either in or close to the swamps then. As far as you never hunting pigs check your email.

I have hunted some hogs where I used to live in the Texas Panhandle right in the north east corner and we hunted them in sandhills and on the rivers, they would travel quite a ways just to tear up a few wheatfields hidden in the sand hills. I killed probably 15 during the 1 winter we got to hunt but those were some exciting fast paced hunts. Glad to see this forum now when I go back to hunt with my friends I will be able to post the stories in their own forum.GOod luck guys. graemlins/thumbsup2.gif

Buckmaster,
Do you have any pics of those kills? I'd sure like to see them and hear a few of your stories. This hog stuff makes me wild. I saw one yesterday afternoon while I was going hunting. It was solid black about 80 pounds and I suppose 60 yards or so off the road in a little strip of oaks. I was thinking to myself he better be glad that was a non hunting area cause if it was huntable I never would have pulled the stand out of the back of the truck. He would have been an easy drop at that distance from ole faithful (the 06).
