Reminds me of a national geographic show a few years ago. It was following a lion pride, some hienas managed to kill on of the baby lions. Later on at a kill the hyena's got too bold, the big male lion went nuts and killed like 5 or six of the hiena's before the rest finally escaped.

Awesome footage!

I saw a video on Real Tv once. Some family on tour with some wildlife guide were filming a pride of lions in the mid day heat sleeping under the shade of a tree. The lions were all lathargic, lazy, and barely looked alive. All of a sudden on lioness turns over with an alert look, and an Impala bounced through the pride, obviously spooked by something else. This Lioness went from lazy to catching an Impala in mid flight in less than one second. I mean she literally rolled over, and sprung into the air, hooking up with the Impala in mid flight. It was unreal. Needless to say, the folks filming all jumped back in the truck once they found out those lazy lions were not so lazy.

I'm pretty sure I saw that footage before on National Geographic. I don't remember what the film crew had named that male lion but I remember it meant- Greets with fire. Awesome footage.

That last hyena definitely got to see the fire. What a bad attitude on that huge lion. And yes, I remember the same show that you guys are talking about. Where they mention that as a young lion his family had altercations with hyenas, only adding fuel to the fire for his bad attitude towards hyenas. Great post Dan!

it is from a national geographic video called "eternal enemies". there is some more awesome footage on that film of clashes between a hyena clan and a pride of lions. there's actually two males and another scene very reminiscent of the one shown there with the other male.
