Scenario is this; my property to hunt borders a lake and a creek. I can hunt the fields on top and the woods down to, but the terrain is VERY STEEP and there is a huge elevation change (range finder says 175 yards top to bottom!!!The creek is small but has a decent sized bottom area. That's where the turkeys are roosting and "loafing". I'm finding out if I can legally hunt it or not (Army Corp land), but until then, how can I get the birds up to my level?
I had several hens in the field with me today, but they all made their way to a path going down to the bottom. They came back around 0900, but they were not with a tom.
So, how do you hunt an area like this where you have markedly steep and deep bottom that the toms seem to stay in? I have some ideas if I know I can hunt the bottom legally, but seems like the toms have to be on top sometime if the hens are, right? I'm quite sure the hens are nesting in the fields on top. THanks!
