nice weather in eastern Kentucky last few days, made for some beautiful spring gobbler hunting,
evening before opener, in the Boone National forest, at 7pm, found a longbeard, in a hollow i hunted last season, he had 6 hens, i watched them
for close to an hour, before flyup, then moved in, to figure my approach for moring,
4:45am next morning, i start my approach, changed my mind a few times,
as i was not sure if just having my truck parked at this gated trailhead, would prevent anyone from walking in, and were these birds were roosted, on the edge of this green field, at the bottom of the hollow, it would take nothing for those birds to get bumped in low light, thats why i went in early, to get behind them,
as it turned out, Kentucky hunters were pefect gentalmen, and i killed that longbeard at 7:15 am, after a very great hunt, pulled this longbeard, away from 6 hens,
23 lbs, exactly, 7/8" spurs, 9 1/2 " 2 year old bird,
next morning in the hollow across from this one, i called in a 19 pound,
1 1/8" 10 1/2 " beard, for my buddy Bruce, that we again roosted, this gobbler was on the ground a total of 1 minute 30 seconds, before he went to turkey heaven, LOL
over all gobbling was great, VERY hard hunting terrain makes things dificult, and not for the out of shape, or inexperianced spring gobbler hunter, i dont recomend this location, unless your very experianced, in fact most all trail gates had vehicals parked, and our shotgun blasts, were the only shot's we heard while we were there, and gobbling was heavy,
i had to leave after the second day, we had one other friend still there, he has yet to score, i got work to do this hole week, and may very well get back down there again for next weekend,
from what i found last year in this place, pressure drops off completely after the first few days,
have some good field photos coming, and some pics of blooming Dogwood trees, that were a sight to see, god i love Kentucky !!!!
