Went to MO for the opener. Birds are henned up pretty bad but the gobblers are thick.
1st day started off with bad luck. Boss gobbler flies into the field with 15+ hens. Things were going my way until 5 jakes chased him off but he stayed in the far end of the field. A bird gobbles across the county rd and I call him across the rd. He stops in the field about 150 yds away, I look at him thru the binocs and see he is a small 2 yr old. I decided to focus on the boss until about 5 minutes later the 2 yr old gobbles about 5 yds behind me. Scared the crap out of me. He saw me, putted once and ran over the hill. The boss was still there. He gets to about 70 yds and Wiley E makes a run after him. That's the end of the boss. Next I hear some sweet yelping, and here comes a jake with a 6-7" beard. Yelps sounded like a young hen. Time is 7:20. Action yes, sucess no!!!!

I drop into a creek bottom and 2 birds get going in a mean creek bottom thicket. Twice I had them @ 25 yds but couldn't see a head to shoot. After 3 hours, I decided to go all out. I hit em with the box, then cutt and yelped on the wing bone and they went crazy. After 15 minutes not another gobble I decided I had blown it. I stood up and I hit a crow call and BAM they are close. I hear spitting and drumming but can't see squat. Mind you I'm a big guy and standing behind a 2" bush. Finally I catch movement in a ditch that is about 4' wide and 3.5' deep. I see 2 strutters, full fans and full beards at 15 yds. At 12 steps the lead bird catches a load of Nitros. Man oh man was playtime over.

Today I took a 61 yr old fellow that has never turkey hunted. We got on some henned up birds and after some manuevering got into position at 10:00. I threw it all at them and got a few courtesy gobbles. Then I tried LATH's wing bone and a hen went nuts!!!! I hit the wingbone again and then switched to a CC Poult Yelper mouth call and the Pure Death glass. Here comes 9 hens and 3 gobblers. All 3 full strut the whole way. Hens are from 10-20 yds and the biggest bird is at 35yds when I told the guy to shoot. BOOOMMM!!!! MISS!!!!!!!!!! I yelp real hard and one of the other bird gobbles and runs back to 40 yds and I say "Please shoot the turkey this time" BOOOMMMM!!! MISSSSS!!!!!!
The guy looks at me and says go get my bird, I said Dude, You MISSED" He said are you sure and I said Yea! You missed by 2 feet!!!!!
Unreal. The guy said he was feeling weak so I checked his pulse. It was racing @ 140BPM. A little excited he was!!!!
Oh well, Get fired back up Friday and the action should be awesome.
