Alright here is the situation. I've been hunting a bird for three weeks now and still haven't dropped him yet and I'm getting a little frustrated. IT all started opening day in the afternoon. He hammered off at aroung 3:30 to a crow call, and he was close. I sat down at the edge of a field and as soon as I started calling he came running. There was one problem and that was a fence inbetween us. He ran to the gate and strutted back and forth at about 70 to 80 yds before he finally saw me and took off. The next afternoon I sat down to do some blind calling and had a gobble after only a few minutes. Then a hen started yelping. A couple of minutes later I heard a bird strutting and looked up and two jakes a hen and a big gobbler where coming my way. This was early in the season and the woods where very open. the hen and jakes got within 20 yds, but the big bird just strutted about 70yds behind them. Finally the hen saw me and it was all over. The next weekend I went back to the same place. I moved down a valley a bit and started blind calling again. The birds really weren't gobbling at all of the roost, but I did see a few hens fly down. I called in a hen that really got fired up and then saw me, and flew across the valley from me. A few minutes later a bird hammered off about a hundred yards away. He came about thirty yards and stopped and strutted and gobbled for about fifteen minutes. finally he just strutted off. He's tricked me about four times in two different spots. I've done just about everything I know of, but just can't get him. He roosts near the same area every day, but from there he's completely unpredictable. It's a big bird, and the area has a lot of hunting pressure. Any suggestions.
