Man Shot In Head While Hunting Turkey
No Charges Filed

UPDATED: 4:43 pm EDT April 19, 2005

JACKSON, Ohio -- A Chillicothe man remained hospitalized Tuesday after he was shot in the head during Monday's opening day of turkey-hunting season.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Ross Cremeans Jr. was setting up a decoy when another hunter took the decoy as a turkey and shot him.

Cremeans, 37, was airlifted to The Ohio State University Medical Center, NBC 4 reported.

The suspected shooter would not be identified until either charges were filed or the department had wrapped up the investigation, according to the Chillicothe Gazette.

I just don't see how anybody could make a mistake like that, it must have been dark, and if that was the case he had no business shooting. Looks bad on all hunters when something like this happens.

Looks like he did not properly identify his target!

you would be suprised Boy's, this crap is very common, and on the rise in a few states, unfortunately it's not going to be the last one we hear about also,
so it's one more reason to be EXTRA carefull on all bases!!
we had a guy up here shot a few years back, a guy blasted him mid morning as he walked down a hedge row, carrying out a bird, everyone was
very pissed at the guy that pulled the trigger, untill the truth came out on what happened,
this guy that got shot, was actually screwing with two guys, that he knew were there, because he heard them calling, and he started hitting his gobbler shaker as he walked, carrying his gobbler, yup, you guessed it, they shot him, now who was at fault in this case??? personally i think there both idiots, but i think the edge goes to the guy that got shot!!!
needless to say the guy had a few surguries to have pellets removed, and teeth reinstalled, he still has a few in that they wont touch close to the spine,
please be sure of your shot, and then give it a second look before you squeeze off, like my dad always said, once you pull the trigger, you can never take it back again!!!

we got a sad one down here.

6'3" Man shot in the chest with a rifle by a trespasser who mistaked him for a turkey.

Rifle and trespass both illegal. Man shot was on his own property.

Some of this is just unbelieveable, I think it was last year a guy shot his hunting buddy with a BOW, mistaken for a turkey. Seems like the story was posted somewhere on this forum.
I dont see how you call shooting another hunter a accident, you are supposed to know what your shooting at.
