I wonder how many of you use gobbler shaker calls and if so have they been effective? I know they are real dangerous to use on public land but curious as to how they have worked for you and under what occasions you use them.

Ive used them in the past mainly for locator calls. I've had mixed success with them. The most realistic one I've ever owned was a quaker boy boss gobble call. It really worked well. The best way to use them is to use the gobble call, if one sounds off get closer to him so he thinks the hen is inbetween the two gobblers. I've found that the birds really don't care about coming to a hen that already has a gobbler with them especially if he has hens with him.

I've got the Quaker Boy call. Had it for a couple of years. They say to shake it to sound like a jake and pump it to sound like a gobbler.

If it's the boss gobble call just shake it. They also have a jake call that you also just shake.

John,

I used a gobbler shaker when I took my big bird this year. He had got hung up for 20 minutes and would not move. I gobble in response to my hunting partners yelps & cutts. Immediately after gobbling, I could hear him drumming and spitting. Rolled him a few minutes later. He was looking for another tom. I don't think that they will work consistently, especially with jakes. But it did the trick this time.

i have alot of concern's about useing the John, but results dont lie, a jake gobble shaker has broken loose adult gobblers, that were hung up for an hour for me, i can go back a ways thinking about sucsess with them, but i can remember one in particular last year, he came running to the end of the barrel for a hunter i had out, after a long stalemate, BUT, boy do you have to be really carefull, JMO

I prefer to make jake yelps. Pretty effective and I don't feel it is quite as dangerous.
