I love hunting in a light rain. If it rained during the night and it's fairly steady, the birds will almost always go to openings. As a rule, though, they generally fly down later than normal.
If rain starts during daylight and comes down fairly steady, the birds again will work into openings. My rule of thumb is that if it's raining hard enough to make the woods noisy, go to the fields.

Well it looks like it's going to be raining here this weekend, so I'm going to have to get out the rain gear. There's two things I love about the rain, one is that there are fewer hunters out, and the other is that the hens don't seem to be as willing to breed. Like you I love to go where I've seen the birds in the fields. They almost always head to fields. And if you catch em when it stops raining they can really turn on fast.
