Well the cats outa the bag . I am here to tell you that these guys swearing traditional archery only are blowing way too much smoke!I practiced for three days and now at 20 - 25 yards I am drilling the kill zone 100 % of the time. My son who has never shot a bow before in his life is shooting about 80% at the same yardage.
I am now doing the move around the yard deal shooting angles and from elevation.Truth is I am very confident that any deer under twenty yards is a dead deer with the recurve.I really thought I was in for a big challenge learning recurve shooting but sorry all you traditional folks IT WASNT.Its a modern weapon after all or at least a very accurate old one.LOL
Kinda dissapointed to tell you the truth , I thought Id be slinging arrows all summer trying to get ready for next year. Not. I will be hunting with my recurve this evening with all the confidence I need.

goodluck to ya. If you kill one, you gonna get em all mad at cha! Thats supposed to be hard. Thats what happened when I first picked up a compound. Within 3 arrows I was in the bulls eye consistantly. Killed 2 deer my first season, first one on opening day. Some just pick up faster than others. Others are just naturals.

All I can liken it to is shouldering a shotgun at a quail. The bow comes up the draw is made simultaneously and zing there goes the arrow into the kill zone.I am not having to fight with finding an anchor point and form much though so I should take to it a bit quicker than usual.
They are deifnately fun to shoot and I cant wait to get a shootable deer under me.I am going out this evening to a small farm I hunt to try and arrow a doe with it.
Wait till you put a reel on it and shoot fish during the summer off months...I've been going crazy for the last few months just itchin to get back on the water and shoot some carp...talk about target practice...What size shafts are you firing thru the recurve?

Thats what I was afraid of, now everyone is gonna buy recurves. I know it took me awhile to get into bow cause i figured it was kinda hard and all the practice blah blah blah. Oh how I regret that. SHould have taken it up 10 yrs ago when I first thought about it.

The hunt continues Dan!I saw 5 does the other evening but only one was over a 100 lbs. I waited and waited for a shot but never did get one on her. Saturday morning i saw one small buck and he never made it into range. This evening I saw zero! I will be going back out Tuesday for the last of the season hunt.I have one great bowstand ready to hunt Tuesday so I am hoping I'll get a shot.
On the arrow question. At the moment I am shooting an old set of feather fletched 2413 super lites. I will be ordering some custom wood arrows before long but until I have this thing better under control I am going to beat up these cheap aluminums.

I've shot Cedar, but prefer aluminum...2413's should give you plenty of mass and spine for what you're shooting...I'm no authority on these things I just love to play w/em...I found some old 2020 shafts at a yard sale and have had 15 guys try to buy them from me....I think Easton reintroduced these shafts last season.....They shoot like darts and are spined like an aluminum dowl rod...Alot of traditionalists prefer these and 2117 for their bows, but I think the 2413 would be great....I was shooting 2312 when I went rabbit hunting on Sat..Super fast out of my 55# Bear TD... Good luck ! ))---> Mike

Tell you the truth MQ I just grabbed the old set I used to use and thought very little about whether the arrow was right for the bow.I hadnt planned on becoming accurrate with this thing very quickly so I hadnt bought specific arrows for it. I just figured bout the time I bent and broke up the six aluminums Id probably be able to justify a 80 dollar set of custom woods .
I am very suprised how well they shoot out of the bow though. So suprised I am wondering wether I shouldnt fine tune my arrow selection down to aluminums . I definately like being able to screw in the broadheads.Who knows well see where this regression in bowhunting takes me, I may end up in a deer skin jacket and moccassins before its over.LOL

That's one of the reasons I went back to the aluminums...They are more consistant and actually cheap if you look at the lower grade of shafts that are now hitting the market...I've been looking at getting me a new longbow and am actually thinking of shooting some of the cheaper/heavier Carbon shafts that are on the market...They sure are more durable than any other shaft you could shoot...At $40-$50 a dz. this may be the way to go...I saw an add for a new wood grain carbon that looked awesome...The uninock also helps in the tuning of each arrow for your shelf or rest..Just something to think about...))----> Mike
