Ok, I live up here in the north (MN), and I'm wondering if anyone would appreciate a sort of "migration news service" here come September. I'd be happy to put up Minnesota and North Dakota migration reports from the respective states as well as my experiences hunting and living here on the border between the two states.

According to what I can read from migration corridor maps, most of the puddle ducks that breed here or migrate through here end up in the Arkansas/Missouri/Kansas and south area for the winter, while many of the divers will end up either on the Gulf Coast, Southern Great Lakes or Chesapeake Bay and south from there.

Major breeding populations in this area on the edge of the prairie pothole country are mallards, bluewing teal, wood ducks, ringnecks, redheads, and canvasbacks. Like many of you, we have a very sizeable population of resident Canadas, except that a large portion of our resident Giants do some migrating south (we believe in sharing up here, you know). During the early portion of the season, we see just about all the puddle ducks except for cinnamon teal. Later divers include lesser scaup, ruddy ducks, ringnecks (early and late), cans, redheads, buffleheads, and common goldeneyes. Most of our later season puddle ducks will be mallards, greenwings, and a few woodies that don't know they're supposed to like warm weather.

I don't plan on letting this turn into a "brag on what I got in the bag" thing, but more of a report on what I'm seeing and what the weather is doing up this way that might affect what you southerners may be seeing soon afterward.

I think that is a great idea. I will take care of Virginia.
