Haven't seen any migrant geese coming through yet, but my guess is that the fall migration is a week or so ahead of schedule, based on what I've seen the last week.
We usually get a lot of bluewings on opening weekend of the season (which starts this Saturday) along with woodies. At this point, many of the woodies and bluewings have already headed south, and I'm seeing some greenwings, which usually are a second week bird.
If the migration does speed up, it will be great for those of us here in Minnesota, but if it goes like it did last year, with the homegrown birds moving south but the birds in Manitoba and Ontario staying north until the last minute and then overflying us, it could be a very, very long and fruitless season for ducks.
Lots of local geese, Giants for the most part. My early season was a bust, mainly because I couldn't get out because of job responsibilities, but we usually do pretty well on geese throughout the regular season here.
