hey guys i didnt know where to post this question and this was closest place i assume. After deer season is over in a few weeks me and few buddies are gonna do some grouse hunting. we came across some state land over run with grouse. we hit one with car the following day and cooked it up. mighty good taisting and cant wait to go back. Does anyone have tips on how to hunt them with you and 2 or 3 buddies? what kinds of guns to use. how to walk. I have a single shot 20 gauge and 12 gauge pump and planned on using regular game load 7 or 8 shot. The birds fly so fast that i dont know about bring my 12 gauge cause the safety on top takes a strong thumb to push it off and by then the bird is gone and with my single shot 20 gauge i just pull up cock hammer really fast and shoot. Do you usually get off more then 1 shot at these birds and are 20 and 12 gauge to big a guns to shoot at them from 10-20-30 yards away and destroy the bird. Me and my buddies never hunted grouse before and would like to get a few to eat.

It is possible to get more than one shot off at these birds. Either gun will do though, and number 6 shot is popular for grouse. I would suggest spreading out and walkingin a single file line. Make sure you can see each other and where some hunters orange. It is easy to be swinging on one of those birds and point at a fellow hunter. The orange helps considerably.
