Well it was a pretty slow year for duck hunting from what I have heard here in the South. How was it in your neck of the woods?

They never made it to Arkansas. Or at least not in the numbers we are used to.

Most everyone Ive talked to has said thats its the worst duck season they can remember.

I had 2 successful hunts near Carlisle, Arkansas. I saw as many ducks in that area, around Jan. 18-20, 02, as I saw in the 1950s. But I hear from other hunters it was a poor year. I think most ducks held in the mid states, because of the mild weather. The ice and snow did not come soon enough to push the critical mass into our wonderful duck hunting state of Arkansas this year.

I'm north of you all here in Western NY. We experienced the same conditions here. But we have had two unbelievable storms. Would you believe 7 foot of snow and then this week going without power for 3 days because of an ice storm... I was told by Home Depot that they could have sold 10,000 electrical generators if they had them. The northern lakes did not freeze this year and the ducks stayed on the open water. However, yesterday I did see the first flight of Canvasbacks here on the Upper Niagara River. Normally we get a crack at them during our late duck season in December and January. We did have alot of resident puddle duck and canada goose action though. Very few bluebills, whistlers, etc.

We had mostly teal and woodies. Resident of course. I believe they held at their nesting grounds up north for the season. Too warm and no reason to come down. We didnt even get the late season show of the mallards. I only went a couple of days though. I had buck on the brain for bow this year.

Kansas was not anything to talk about either. Hunted from the North part of the state to the South and never seen any good numbers.

Funny, somewhere had to have a good season. SUpposedly the numbers were expected to be way up.

How late into the year does your guys' duck and geese seasons go down State-side anyway? We had an excellent season with Canadas, Snowies, and Specks, not to mention Mallards, but our season ends pretty early (no matter, our ponds freeze up pretty fast too come mid November).

Ours stays open through December, maybe early Jan. I am not a big duck hunter so I am not sure exactly how late. Our main bag in the area I hunt is wood ducks with mallards and gadwals mixed in. Of course we get teal, and every now and then some pintails come in. I have yet to see a widgeon where I hunt, but I see al ot of scaup and ruddy ducks at my parents house on the lake which is just a few miles from the lease.

They must have all been in our back yard...

We did o.k. this season for awhile! But, the guide services said the same...bad year!

2002 Season, there's a 2-man duck hunting trip that we're gonna be auctioning off to benefit Harlan Ford and Tony Fisher. I'll keep ya'll posted!

Have a good day!

We had a great year in Nova Scotia. The winters are getting much warmer so the ducks are staying longer or just plain staying!! Good for me but not so good for USA.
We were filling bag limits within an hour of dropping the decoys. When the lakes and marshes iced up we went to the ocean. 90% of our ducks were black and mallard which is just fine with me.
