For most of us, the early goose and dove season opens on Sept 1, where will you be hunting at? On September 1 I will be hunting a private swamp I have permission to hunt for teal and geese. Then after that hunt in the morning, I will jump across the road where I have permission to hunt a wheat field for doves. After that, I might hit one of the state lakes for teal and geese again, but will mostly be after the fast flying doves the majority of the time. Most of the spots I have permission to hunt are better later in the season when the weather gets cold, but I should be able to get my 5 geese out of the swamp on September 1. Hopefully I will have some good shooting on the opening day of dove and early goose/teal season. Where will you be come September 1?

I expect another fun day with the boys banging at the doves. I just hope their percentages go up this year. Like all boys, mine seem to greatly overestimate the range of their guns. :D

Under a straw hat amongst the stubble and remaining stalks of sunflowers planted specifically for QDM (Quality Dove Management)...in the annual pursuit of dropping a limit inside of a box of shells (often close...never happens...and sometimes not even close). :D

Cant hunt doves here, so I will be in the mud somewhere trying to get that damned duck that is just out of reach! I need a dog (or hunt with somebody who has one!)

I will be sitting in the middle of a Sunflower field, waiting to shoot at those F-14's, called doves. Couple of cases of shells, a cooler full of water, pop, sandwiches, and a group of friends. It doesn't get to be much more fun then opening day of dove season. Then on the 14th of Sept. I will be headed for Idaho for an archer elk hunt, till the first of October. Hot dog! It'll be another hunting season cann't wait. Till then I guess I will pass the time shooting my bow, hunting bullfrogs, fishing, and pacing the house.

archer1 drive up and I'll take ya out. Last year we had a very good year and this year looks to be even better so far. As long as the weather cooperates. I might have to pick your brain on the elk talk though. Making my first trip this year.

You can pick away right here :D There are a couple good articles in Bowhunter and Peterson's bowhunting currently on calling. One thing I agree with is it's hard to mess up elk by bugling unless you stop in the middle of one, live elk don't often cut off a bugle unless they get spooked. Elk are like people and turkeys in that no two sound exactly the same and like turkeys they all sound COOL :D . You can bugle too agressively or deep and push off some young bulls and some bulls are just gonna opt for takin the girls away. I would bugle to locate and work cow and calf talk up close first and then move to subordinate buglin (in general). Again like turkey huntin you can try different things and try to find what the bull is in the mood for. I also use cow or calf talk to follow or cover every misstep I make like when I crunch or break something. Ol'Cojo on here can give you plenty of tips too. Where are you huntin in Idaho? I've hunted up in area 7 in the panhandle a couple times during rifle season.
Good luck to you. smile.gif
