Ducks Unlimited Supports Hunting Heritage Accord

Ducks Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited Canada, and Ducks Unlimited de Mexico have endorsed the concept of the North American Hunting Heritage Accord, proposed by a coalition of conservation organizations, hunters’ groups, and government agencies. The accord recognizes the recreational, economic, and cultural significance of hunting in North America and affirms the leadership role that hunters play in the conservation of the continent’s wildlife habitats.

“DU is proud to support the concept of the North American Hunting Heritage Accord,” says Don Young, Executive Vice President of Ducks Unlimited. In a group statement, DU Inc. President John Tomke, DU Canada President Mel Belich, and DU de Mexico President John Walker add: “This position is entirely consistent with our organizations’ support of the hunting and shooting sports over the 65 years of our existence and as most recently affirmed by our board of directors. (Hunting Position Statement)

The North American Hunting Heritage Accord also seeks to capture the spirit, principles, and aspirations of the North American Hunting Community and thereby achieve greater unity among all hunters to more effectively address common issues, opportunities, and challenges. The accord will be formalized at the next Governor's Symposium on North America's Hunting Heritage, to be held in Houston in December 2003. For more information on the symposium, go to http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/hunt/heritage. Ducks Unlimited is a major sponsor of this event, whose theme is: “Taking Action to Secure the Future of Hunting in North America.”
