Anyone getting ready for dove season? I'm not a great shot but I sure enjoy getting out there.

This will be my first year dove hunting. I heard that you should take a couple boxes of shells. I'm not a great shot either but I heard it was fun and they taste great.

Good luck Dan. Don't forget to pick up the hulls.

Hey, you'll love it...I don't get many birds, but if the birds are flying well it makes for a fun afternoon. You will definitely need several boxes of shells, especially if you shoot like i do :D

I used to make a trip every year to South Texas when my parents lived down there. I have never seen doves as thick as they were down in those parts. Honest to God, I had one hunt that I couldn't even keep my gun loaded. I would shoot, and slide a bullet in when I had the chance. I raised up a couple times with an empty gun. Dove hutning is great fun, and a great way to introduce a new hunter since there is some action, you can move around, and you don't have to be quiet. I think I have a couple good spots to go around Baton Rouge this year. I hope they work out. I have been known to carry 5 boxes to the field with me :D Granted I have never had to return to the truck for ammo, but sometimes if I had to, it would have been a long walk. We used to measure our annual South Texas trip in number of cases shot, not boxes. There was usually about 5 to 7 of us out there for about 3 or 4 days, and like you guys, we aren't the best shots. We have a new dove around our parts. It is an exotic, and there is no limit on them. I think they are called Eurasian Collared Doves. They are bigger and lighter in color than morning doves. I hope we can get a few of those too.

No dove hunting in Minnesota. We have to make do with 15 pound Giant Canadas on Sept. 1.

We don't have doves here in Montana, so I haven't ever hunted them. We do have Phasants though, and the Giant Canada Geese. Sharptails are a lot of fun too.
