This will be my first year hunting with a muzzleloader, a CVA hunterbolt.

I dont know much about the CVA, but I shoot a Reminton 700 ML. I have replaced the factory nipple so it will shoot musket caps. I also have a BSA 3-9 "Deer Hunter" scope attached to it with Leupold "Quik Release" mounts. The reason why I need that is that the wrench it comes with to take the breech plug and nipple out is just about impossible to turn with a permanetly mounted scope on it. It is also better for the scope that you can clean the fouling off of the area that you normally couldnt.
To shoot it, I use 130 gr. ( ), thats 2 50 grain Pyrodex Pellets, and 1 30 grain pellet, topped off with a 45 cal., 300 grain XTP bullet in a 50 cal sabot.
It is a very powerful load. (DUH)
Where I live it is shotguns, or muzzle loaders, so Im leaving the 870 at home this year and carrying my muzzle loader.
I dont know if I answered your question, or if there even was one, but I do think this is the longest post Ive posted so far :D

It sounds like you're ready! I got into muzzleloading because it allows me an extra seven days of deer hunting here in KY. I recently bought a Knight Bighorn but haven't taken any deer with it yet. Good Hunting and the CVA is a good gun.

I shoot an Austin & Halleck 320 SS. My favorite load is the 300 grain Barnes ML Expander and 150 grains of Pyrodex Pellets. With this load and rifle, using my Leupold 4.5x14x50 with Mil-Dots, I can use the correct holdover and drill out to 300 yards. My farthest confirmed roll was 225 yards via lazer rangefinder.

I am a traditional muzzeloader. I use a Hawken 54cal. I have used this gun for over 20 years and I have never seen a need to use over 90grs of FF black powder And my favorite maxey ball. I have no problem taking deer out to 150yrds. any farther than that and most people have no business taking the shoot anyway. I really have a problem when people brag about shooting deer at 200-300 yrds with any front stuffer. How many people can even estimate that range accuratly? And how many people even have the skill to cleanly take an animal at half that distance? NOT VERY MANY! The average deer at 200yrds is a dam small target even with a scope.

I like the Remington 700ML because its really dependable because it has never missed fired once in 4 years rain or shine and it likes the 240 grain bullets

Glad to see there are some muzzleloader hunters out there. Its not a big thing where i live and it is 2nd to bow with seeing the most deer. I currently shoot a Thompson Centerfire "inline i think" made by Black Diamond. I have shot 4 deer with this from 20 all the way up to 50 yards away. 3 out of 4 dropped right there and 1 made it 40 yards and dropped. I have never missed a deer with this muzzleloader and i love the fiber optic sights on it. If you cant not get the shakes and aim it right you cant miss it. I love this gun cuase it uses pellets and takes me about 20 seconds to load if that. I suggest it to anyone thinking about a new muzzleloader or gonna get into it.
