Howdy,
A friend left me his Savage model 99 lever action rifle just before he passed. It is a .308 brush rifle and i finally got acess to some hunting land that allows rifles (I live ooutside of Baltimore). Money is tight but I can get a scope as an early Christmas gift from the wife. I know Leupolds are the benchmark but Cabella's has a Simmons Whitetail Classic 2-10x40 for $119. $200 is max that i can spend (including mount and rings). Any suggestions, recommendations, and advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
T

I will post a link tomorrow, it is bookmarked on my work computer. You might lo0k at Leupold vari X II scopes. They quite a bit cheaper than the LPS and Vari X III scopes. The best thing about LEupolds is that they are guarnteed for life, no questions asked. It breaks, you get a new scope. You might find a vari xII in your price range.

Check out some prices here. My buddy bought a scope from these guys and had no problems with them. Their prices are pretty darn good too.

I just checked that website to see if there were any leupolds in your price range. I saw a gloss VariXII 3-9X40 for $209.00. I just wanted to make sure there were some there. I didn't check when I posted the link.

Your price range really does limit you to the made in china stuff. But that is OK because most of them will work fine for your .308. Tasco has a awesome gaurantee policy on it's wolrd class scopes, no matter how you break it they will fix it. You can get a 3x10x50 for about $80. You can find them most anywhere. Bushnell and Bauch and Lomb are now the same thing, so you can find good stuff from them too. Weaver rings and mounts will cost you no more than $20 I figure. Don't worry, there are good scopes out there that are cheap too.
