I have a new 12ga. Model 11-87 SP Super Magnum. I'm having problems with it ejecting a spent shell. The shell is ejected from chamber, but it is not ejected from from the receiver. This problem occurred about 4 times in 30 shots. I'm using Remington 2 3/4, 7 1/2 shot ShurShot Heavy Dove, which this gun should shoot. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

I have recently began to have this problem with my 870 (also 3 1/2). I took it apart and sprayed the inside with Action Cleaner really good. I cleaned it out the best I could but unless I give it a good heave to pump it it will still do it.

When I figure out how to get it fixed right I will let you know.

Bego,

Try giving that 11-87 a good barrel cleaning and then disassemble and check the gas ports from the barrel in the ring where the barrel fits over the magazine column. In this case you may also have excess lubrication, get moving parts clean and dry excess lube. Make sure any O-rings are in good shape and put her back together and give it another try. Let me know how you get along. I've got some contacts at the Remington R&D center I can holler at if your still having trouble.

I agree with Archer1. the 11-87 is a great gun, but you hear a lot of complaint about it, and many other popular auto loaders. Most of the problems such as this are due to dirty guns. Clean the bore, and the receiver, and then check the gas ports.

I have found that the 3.5 inchers are hard to "shuck" out of the pump guns. The shell seems to expand a bit, and with the increased length of the shell, there is more friction to over come. I was denied a follow up shot on a turkey last year because I had to use both hands to pump the action on the old 835 after a poor shot with some Winchester XX 3.5 #6. Those spent shells look like a roman candle coming out of the gun.

I have a gun, Ithaca model 52 Featherweight 20 guage that will not shoot light loads. It is a magnum, and it hangs up with anything other than 3 inch heavy loads.

The problem you are having assuming your shotgun is clean, is you need to shoot a heavier load. It is hard for any 3 1/2" shotgun to cycle light loads. Look at the dram loading on your shells. The 3 dram loads are kind of "Iffy" some shuck some don't. You will probably have to use 3 1/2 dram loads to make it work properly.

If you load you own, use the Heavy Field Load data. I have worked up some very good loads that hit hard. Quite a few of my buddies shoot the same shotgun you do. I have the same problem with my SBE with real light target loads. All of them have problems with light loads. Most if it is due to the shotgun being new and they need a little wear on them to loosen them up.

Find a good load that cycles and patterns good and stick with it.

Remington sent me 4 boxes of 12ga. 3 1/2" Nitro-Steel Magnum shells to shoot in my gun. They said try these shells to see if "breaks" the 1187 Super Mag in. I shot all 4 boxes and it seems to have fixed the ejection problem!
