Anyone know how to get involved with some high power rifle competition? I would like to shoot a few matches, but have no idea of how to get started. Is there a hunting rifle class?

Shadow,

I'd start at www.nra.org (http://www.nra.org) and look at their competitions. Their normal high power competitions require metallic sights but they also have High Power Sporting Rifle competitions which usually allow for scoped equipment. You may also want to look at sillohuette matches for more of a hunting aspect. They have a "getting started" section on their page. Sounds like it would be fun, finding the time and where to travel to would be my problem. Good luck, maybe we'll see your name on a Palma Team roster someday. smile.gif

Alan, you could also try Benchrest Central. They have forums all types of rifle competition.

I have been shooting High Power Rifle Silhouette for around 4 years now. They have two classes for High Power Rifle. They are Heavy Gun (10lb 2oz) and Hunter Class. If you have a rifle in 308 or better yet a 7mm-08 without a heavy barrel, you can shoot the Hunter Class. If it has a Heavy barrel, you can shoot the Heavy Gun.

Silhouette shooting is done 100% standing on your hind legs. No Rest, No Sling, just you and your rifle. It is by far the fairest shooting competition out there. The clang of the metal is very addicting.

After you get shooting Silhouette, you will notice an extreme increase in your field accuracy. When you get used to shooting without a rest in competition, anytime you get a rest in the field, you can really drill.

Give it a try, It is the best hunting practice out there.
