I dont like the newer Ruger 10/22 with the bull barrle semi auto because my little savage can shoot circles around it, its just probally the semi action messing the bullet up and makin it shoot funny.I thought it would shoot better but it didnt, i tried to of the same guns out and both did the same thing

A lot of manufactures are putting bull barrels on rifles these days for looks. A .22 rimfire hardly needs a bull barrel to be accurate. Screwing on a bull barrel to a standard action probably won't make much difference in accuracy. Put that barrel on a trued action, and it will make a world of difference. Semi autos are notorious for not being accurate. Comparing an out of the box semi auto to a bolt gun is like comparing apples and oranges. Is your savage a bolt or a semi auto? I am not familiar with their models. The added thickness makes the barrel stiffer, and this eliminates much of the whip action a barrel expriences while a projectile is traveling down it. It also allows for more shots in succession with out the barrel heating up and causeing "barrel walk". I will say that I like the looks of the heavy barrels, but they are far from necessary on a hunting rifle. What sort of groups are you getting with the Ruger?

Hey, I need a little more info about that 10/22. Is it a factory gun or did you install an aftermarket barrel. If so, what brand barrel. Factory trigger? Any ejection problems? These guns are usually good shooters and there are probably 20 little things you can do to tweak them even more. Mine has a Fajen blued bull barrel, Fajen thumbhole silhouette stock, factory trigger that I have polished and worked on the disconnector. As soon as the weather warms up I'm going to bed the action and install a Bughole tuner. As is this gun shoots sub .5" horizontally at 50 yds. and about .75" vertically. The Bughole tuner should bring the vertical stringing under control.
Mine looks identical to this except for the scope. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/fgallery/fpics/12.jpg

I have a stock 10/22 that ill shoot 1/2 to 3/4" at 50 yards. The secret is finding ammo tha the gun likes. Mine especially likes min-mag hp's. I hates wildcats and umc's--they won't stay in 3" at 50.

The bull barrel guns are supposed to have a match chamber and othe work. they should do anything you r capable of doing.

Man I love those thumbhole Fajen stocks on a 10/22. Those are sweet little rifles. A buddy of mine has one, and it shoots really nice.

I have a 10-22 with a synthetic stock, with the butt part of it indented and says RUGER on it. It has a little short stainless barrel on it and a 3-9 scope.

Mine shoots pretty well with just about everything, but it really likes Mini-Mags. I want to try Stingers (which I had already bought a box of but havent tried them) and those cheap Federals you can get 550 of them for 8 bucks.

My main problem with accuracy is that when I shoot it, I ususally am just messing around and shoot it 100 or 150 times in a session. I dont do the rapid fire, I just shoot alot. How many rounds do you guys usually put through yours at a time?

I have an old(20+) 10-22 that is stock except for a Weaver D4 scope(old age!) I can pick walnuts with. The only problem I have is that it is very choosey what ammo it will fire. The problem is not striking the primer hard enough to fire the round. It has been cleaned and checked and the only fodder it will take is Stingers or yellow-jackets/vipers,not a major deal now but it may be time for that custom work you guys are talking about! :D

I will shoot 100-200 rounds plinking on a Saturday, and can't use the cheap rounds of any brand! I did use stingers but have found yellow-jackets or Vipers to be more accurate.

It is really interesting how guns like different ammo. I have a 10/22 that shoots great with minimags and remington golden bullets but won't do anything with stingers.

And I hve a marlin 39 saddle carbine ( straight stock) that will shoot stngers into a 1/2" group but hate minimags.

Byt the way, it is unbeleivable what a stinger does to a squirrel. They disrupt very violently!
